March 5th and 6th Introduction to Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary. Tier 2 words are "portable" words that can be used in any area or situation. Tier 3 words are "area specific" words. These words are which might be used in Language Arts class, but not in Auto Shop or Biology. They are specific to certain classes or careers only. We rewrote our warm-up sentence, "What kind of animal do you want to be?" using Tier 2 words as much as possible. We took the "Introduction Unit Test". See the teacher for a copy of the test if you were absent. tier_2_portable_words.docx
February 20th and 21st Students worked on creating their own compare sentences using a "compare" sentence frame. The developmental domains were compared as well as the learning activities from the previous class period.
February 13th to 16th We have taken notes and applied the Principles of Development and Developmental Domains. We spent the 15th and 16th exploring the Domains through the use of toys which preschool children might use to learn with. principles_of_devopment__1_.pdf
February 9th and 12th Today in class, we discussed the influence that all of us who work with children can have on them. We began power point notes on development through the life cycle. We will complete the notes next class. We also wrote down one "Gem of Greatness" to begin our collection: "Each of us who is involved in the lives of children can be an influence on their development." what_is_child_development.pptx
February 7th-8th Review of classroom policies. Students sat in triads and asked, answered, and recorded answers to "Tell me about your favorite childhood memory." The goal was to be as descriptive as possible with language, so as to understand how important it is to use words with young children as they are learning vocabulary. Interactive notebooks were set up: "Gems of Greatness" page, then "Table of Contents" on the first two pages, with "Warm-ups" near the back of the INB. Notes were taken on "What we will learn in this Class". Students completed and turned in "Letter to Mrs. Koelbl" what_we_will_learn__child_development_2.docx Download File letter_to_mrs._koelbl_docx.docx Download File February 5th-6th Students got to know each other through the "Appointment" activity which involved asking four different questions to 4 different people. Students shared their answers with the class. As a practice on the topic of "literacy", students asked one another, "Tell me about your day." One person spoke while the other recorded the information, then they switched roles. Classroom policy was shared: No phones/no food in class, where to find copies of assignments/notes if you were absent, stack chairs, clean area, stay by table until the bell rings!
